Introduction
Amaryl is an oral diabetes medication, which helps control blood sugar levels and helps your body respond better to insulin produced by pancreas. It is used together with exercise and diet for curing type 2 diabetes. At times, insulin and other medicines are used in combination with this drug if required. Also known as Glimepiride, it is a medium to long acting sulfonylurea antidiabetic drug and is sold by Sanofi-Aventis as Amaryl, by Ranbaxy Laboratories (Cardiovascular) as GLIMPID and by Dr.Reddy's Labs as GLIMY. At times, Amaryl is classified as either the first 2nd generation sulfonylurea or as3rd generation. It might be used when exercise and diet don’t provide adequate control of blood sugar and also in combination with insulin or metformin when exercise and diet and the use of these drugs on their own don’t offer adequate control of blood sugar.
