Introduction
Bactroban contains an antibiotic, Mupirocin that prevents bacteria from growing on the skin and is used for curing diseases of the skin like impetigo. Also known as Mupirocin (Centany or Bactroban), it is an antibiotic of monoxycarbolic acid group that was initially isolated from Pseudomonas fluorescens NCIMB 10586, developed by Beecham. It is bactericidal at high concentrations and bacteriostatic at low concentrations and is used topically and is effective against Gram-positive bacteria, including MRSA. Also present in Mupirocin are pseudomonic acid C with double bond between C11 and C10 rather than epoxide of PA-A, pseudomonic acid D with double bond at C5` and C4` in 9-hydroxy-nonanoic acid portion of mupirocin and pseudomonic acid B with extra hydroxyl group at C8.
Doses of Bactroban :
  • You can use Bactroban as recommended by your doctor; however if you don’t understand the instructions consult your doctor, nurse or pharmacist to explain them to you.
  • Wash your hands after and before using this medicine; clean and dry the affected area and apply small amount as ointment as prescribed.
  • You can notice improvement in three to five days; if the infection doesn’t improve or gets worse, consult your doctor.
  • Avoid getting this medicine in your large open wounds, mouth, nose or eyes.
  • Apply the missed dose once you remember; don’t use double dose unless otherwise recommended.
  • Store Bactroban at room temperature away from heat and moisture.
