Also known as Tretinoin, it is an acid form of vitamin A and is called ATRA or all-trans retinoic acid and is the 1st generation topical retinoid commonly used for curing keratosis pilaris and acne vulgaris. It is offered as gel or cream (trade names Airol, Aberela, Atralin, Renova, Avita, Retin-A, Refissa, Retacnyl, Stieva-A or ReTrieve) and is used for treating acute promyelocytic leukemia. Doses of Retin :
  • You can take Retin-A as recommended by your doctor and not for longer than prescribed. Applying it more often than recommended or using more medicine will not make it work faster and might increase side effects.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly after and before applying this medicine; clean and dry the skin area to be cured.
  • Applying Retin-A to wet skin might cause skin irritation; don’t wash the cured area for at least one hour after using this medicine.
  • It should be used as a part of complete skin care program, which includes using protective clothing and effective sunscreen and avoiding sunlight.
  • Use this medicine as soon as you remember; don’t apply additional medicine to make up the missed one.
  • Get emergency medical help in case if you have used too much; store at room temperature away from heat and moisture. The gel formulations are flammable, so keep them away from open flame.
