Anafranil is a tricyclic antidepressant that affects chemicals in the brain which might become unbalanced. It is used for curing symptoms of obsessive compulsive disorder like recurrent feelings or thoughts and repetitive actions. Also known as Clomipramine, it is a tricyclic antidepressant, which was developed by Geigy, Swiss drug manufacturing company (now called Novartis) in the year 1960. It has been in clinical use all over the world ever since and is often regarded as the most powerful antidepressant ever made. Antidepressant medicine increases the risk unlike placebo of suicidal behaviour or suicidality and thinking in adolescents, young adults and children in short term studies of most significant depressive disorder and other psychiatric disorders.
Doses of Anafranil :
  • Anafranil can be taken as recommended by your doctor; however not in smaller or larger amounts and not for longer than prescribed.
  • Your doctor might occasionally change the dose to ensure you get best results.
  • You can take this medicine with food for reducing stomach upset.
  • It might take around four weeks before your symptoms enhance, so keep using this medicine as directed and inform your doctor if symptoms don’t improve after four weeks of treatment.
  • Missed dose can be taken as soon as you remember; don’t take additional dose to make up the missed one.
  • Get medical help in case of overdose; symptoms include uneven or fast heart rate, vomiting, extreme drowsiness, loss of coordination or balance, severe sweating, fever, decreased or increased urination, stiff muscles, shallow or weak breathing, blue fingernails or lips, seizure or convulsions, coma or fainting.
  • Store Clomipramine at room temperature away from heat and moisture.
