Arava is an oral medication that has a key ingredient called Leflunomide and is used for curing rheumatoid arthritis symptoms. It also affects the human immune system and reduces inflammation and swelling in the body. Arava helps reduce joint damage and enhances physical strength. Also known as Leflunomide, Arava is a DMARD, which is used in active moderate to severe psoriatic arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. It is a pyrimidine synthesis inhibitor that belongs to the class of medicines known as DMARD (disease-modifying antirheumatic drug) and is pharmacologically and chemically very heterogeneous. Arava is available for oral administration as tablets containing 20, 100, or 10 mg of active drug and also contains some inactive ingredients that could cause intolerances or allergies. It was approved by U.S. FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and in several countries such as Europe and Canada in the year 1998.
Doses of Arava :
  • Arava can be taken as recommended by your doctor; however not in smaller or larger amounts and not for longer than prescribed.
  • Your blood might need to be tested often, as it may lower the blood cells.
  • Take the missed dose once you remember, nevertheless don’t take extra dose to make up the missed one.
  • In case of overdose, seek emergency medical attention; symptoms include diarrhea, stomach pain, dark urine, easy bruising, or jaundice.
