Aricept enhances the nerve cells function in the brain and works by preventing the breakdown of chemical known as acetylcholine. Patients with dementia typically have lower levels of acetylcholine that’s important for the processes of thinking, reasoning and memory. It is used for curing mild to moderate dementia caused by Alzheimer's disease. Also known as Donepezil by Pfizer and Eisai, Aricept is a centrally acting reversible acetylcholinesterase inhibitor and its main use is in the palliative treatment of mild to moderate. Common side effects include gastrointestinal upset. It has oral bioavailability of 100% and easily crosses blood–brain barrier.
Doses of Aralen :
  • You can take Aricept as recommended by your doctor; nonetheless not in larger amounts and not for longer than prescribed.
  • If you need to have any kind of surgery, inform the surgeon beforehand that you are taking this medicine.
  • It can be taken with or without milk or food and with full glass of water.
  • To take Aricept orally disintegrating tablet, keep the tablet in its blister pack till you are ready to take it.
  • Aricept is usually taken at bedtime; however follow your doctor's instructions.
  • Take the missed dose of Aricept once you remember; don’t take additional dose to make up the missed one.
  • Get emergency medical help, in case of overdose; symptoms include vomiting, severe nausea, sweating, drooling, feeling light-headed, blurred vision, shallow breathing, slow heartbeat, fainting, seizure (convulsions) or muscle weakness.
  • Store this medication at room temperature away from heat and moisture.
