Generic Name: Rosiglitazone
Brand Name: Avandia
Avandia is an anti-diabetic drug, which primarily by enhancing glycemic control and increasing insulin sensitivity, while reducing circulating insulin levels. It is not chemically or functionally related to the biguanides, the alpha glucosidase or the sulfonylureas inhibitors. Due to rapid interconversion, enantiomers are functionally indistinguishable. It is off-white to white solid, which is readily soluble in ethanol. Each pentagonal, film-coated tablet includes rosiglitazone maleate that’s equivalent to Rosiglitazone, 8 mg, 2 mg or 4 mg, to be administered orally. Inactive ingredients are hypromellose 2910, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, polyethylene glycol 3000, sodium starch glycolate, titanium dioxide and triacetin.

  • You can take Avandia with or without food; the daily dose should not exceed 8 mg.
  • No dosage adjustment is needed, when it is used as monotherapy in patients with renal impairment.
