Also known as divalproex sodium, Depakote affects chemicals in the body which might be involved in causing seizures. Its tablets include an active ingredient known as valproate semisodium that’s a kind of drug known as mood stabiliser. Doses of Depakote :
  • You can take Depakote as recommended by your doctor; however not in smaller or larger amounts and not for longer than prescribed.
  • Drink plenty of water while using this medication, as your dose might need to be changed if you don’t get enough fluids every day.
  • You might open the sprinkle capsule and sprinkle the medicine into spoonful of applesauce or pudding to make swallowing easier.
  • Don’t chew, crush, open or break the extended-release or delayed-release capsule or tablet. Swallow it whole.
  • Missed dose can be taken as soon as you remember; don’t take additional dose to make up the missed one.
  • Get emergency medical help, in case of overdose; symptoms include shallow breathing, sleepiness or drowsiness, loss of consciousness or weak pulse.
