Elimite is an anti parasite drug that is used for curing scabies and head lice. Also known as Permethrin, it is a common synthetic chemical, broadly used as an acaricide, insect repellent and insecticide. It belongs to the class of synthetic chemicals known as pyrethroids and works as a neurotoxin, affecting neuron membranes by prolonging sodium channel activation. Elimite isn’t known to rapidly harm most birds or mammals, however is dangerously toxic to fish and cats. Generally, it has a low mammalian toxicity and is poorly absorbed by skin. In drug, Permethrin is a first-line treatment for scabies; a 5% cream is sold under trade name Lyclear by Johnson & Johnson. In Canada and Nordic countries, it is sold under brand name Nix, often available over the counter.
Doses of Elimite :
  • Don’t take Elimite by mouth, as it is for use only on fabrics, hair, skin and other surfaces.
  • You can use this medicine as recommended by your doctor or as directed on the label. Don’t use it in larger amounts and for longer than prescribed.
  • You need to shake the medicine well before use and follow the instructions on the label; don’t apply Permethrin topical to open wounds or cuts.
  • For preventing reinfection, wash all towels, clothing, bed linens, hats and bed clothes in hot water and dry in high heat.
  • For most complete treatment of scabies or lice, you might treat your environment at the same time you cure your body.
  • As Elimite is usually required only once, you are not likely to be on dosing schedule.
  • Get emergency medical help in case of overdose; symptoms of this medicine are unknown.
  • Store this medication at room temperature away from heat and moisture.
