Glucotrol or Glipizide is an oral short and rapid acting antidiabetic medicine from sulfonylurea class and is classified as a 2nd second generation sulfonylurea, meaning that it undergoes enterohepatic circulation. 2nd generation sulfonylureas are both have shorter half lives as compared to 1st generation sulfonylureas and more potent. Sulfonylureas might also cause decrease of serum glucagon and potentiate the action of insulin at extrapancreatic tissues. Formerly available in the year 1984, Glucotrol is sold by Pfizer under trade name Glucotrol in USA, where the company markets it in doses of 10 and 5 milligrams. Other firms also sell Glipizide, most commonly extended release tablets of 10 and 5 milligrams.
Doses of Glucotrol
  • You can take Glucotrol as prescribed by your doctor; however not in smaller or larger amounts and not for longer than recommended.
  • Take it at least 30 minutes before meal or breakfast and once daily.
  • Take the missed dose as soon as you remember; nevertheless don’t take additional dose to make up the missed one.
