Mevacor belongs to the class of medicines known as HMG CoA reductase inhibitors or statins that reduces bad cholesterol levels and triglycerides in the blood, while increases good cholesterol levels. It is used in children who are ten years old and adults. Also known as Lovastatin, Mevacor is a member of the drug class of statins used in combination with weight loss, exercise and diet to lower cholesterol in those with hypercholesterolemia for reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease. It is a naturally occurring drug found in food like red yeast rice and oyster mushrooms. Lovastatin or Mevacor is a cholesterol lowering agent isolated from the strain of Aspergillus terreus. After oral ingestion, it is hydrolyzed to corresponding β-hydroxyacid form.
Doses of Mevacor
