Product Details
Generic Name: Tizanidine
Brand Name: Zanaflex
Zanaflex is a short acting muscle relaxer and works by blocking pain sensations (nerve impulses), which are sent to your brain. It is also used for curing spasticity by temporarily relaxing muscle tone. Tizanidine is a centrally acting α2 adrenergic agonist that’s used for treating cramping, tightness of muscles and spasms caused by medical problems including spastic diplegia, multiple sclerosis, back pain or certain other injuries to central nervous system or spine. It is also recommended for few symptoms of fibromyalgia and has been found to be as effective as other antispasmodic medicines. Zanaflex has superior tolerability to that of diazepam and baclofen and might cause hypotension, so caution is advised when it is used in those who have history of orthostatic hypotension. According to clinical trials, around 5% of patients treated with tizanidine had elevated liver function test values.
