Product Details
Generic Name: Allopurinol
Brand Name: Zyloprim
Zyloprim is an oral medication that’s used for curing gout, increased levels of uric acid caused by cancer treatment, and kidney stones caused by high levels of uric acid. It is available in the form of tablet which is proved to be effective. Also known as Allopurinol (generics and Zyloprim), it is a medicine used mainly for treating hyperuricemia and its complications such as chronic gout. Zyloprim is a purine analog, a structural isomer of hypoxanthine and an inhibitor of enzyme xanthine oxidase, which is responsible for successive oxidation of xanthine and hypoxanthine, resulting in production of uric acid, a human purine metabolism product. Besides blocking uric acid production, inhibition of xanthine oxidase causes an increase in xanthine and hypoxanthine. Increased levels of ribotides might cause feedback inhibition of amidophosphoribosyl transferase, purine biosynthesis’ rate-limiting and first enzyme. Therefore, Allopurinol decreases uric acid formation and might also inhibit purine synthesis.
